Metabo worked with us to realize the huge potential for innovation offered by a networked development platform.
“The switch to CATIA V6 is an investment in the future, which will really boost our innovation potential in both design and development,” says Melanie Boll, PLM team leader at Metabo.
“The switch to V6 is an investment in the future, which will really boost our innovation potential in both design and development. Thanks to the implementation with our long-term partner TECHNIA, we can ensure that we are able to seamlessly transition into this new environment.”
Metabo is well known for the high quality of their machines. In order to uphold this standard, the Nürtingen-based manufacturer of electrical tools has chosen to focus on the very latest development methods.
Metabo has set the course for the future and is about to switch from CATIA V5 to the innovative new V6 version. At the same time, ENOVIA V6 is to replace the previously used version of the SmarTeam software.
In order to implement this project, Metabo has called upon the expertise of Karlsruhe-based software company TECHNIA (formerly TechniaTranscat).
As part of the implementation phase, the two companies are working together to scrutinize and adapt their processes. The system is to be rolled out at Metabo over the course of the next year.
“The thing that finally made us decide to switch to V6 was the huge potential for innovation offered by a networked development platform,” explains Bernd Germann, Director of Processes, Tools & Methods at Metabo.
In the future, data will be managed using the fully integrated ENOVIA database, which forms a central platform for all process participants, thus allowing for the real-time exchange of data. This helps to improve communication both between the company’s sites in Nürtingen and Shanghai and between individual departments. The interconnected online environment that surrounds the entire product life cycle also has further benefits in terms of its search function and change management system.
Cooperation between the different departments will soon experience a whole new level of efficiency with regard to the exchange of information. For example, this will include increases in speed introduced by the Silverlayer, in which developmental stages can be viewed quicker without having to go into the methodology of CATIA.
In terms of usability, CATIA V6 is almost identical with the V5 version, so that, in this aspect, there will be no need for costly staff training or familiarisation periods as staff adjusts to the new software. In principle, the design methodology can be adopted, guaranteeing a high level of acceptance from the users.
“The switch to V6 is an investment in the future, which will really boost our innovation potential in both design and development. Thanks to the implementation with our long-term partner TECHNIA, we can ensure that we are able to seamlessly transition into this new environment,” says Melanie Boll, PLM team leader at Metabo.
